My Beautiful Struggle + [strange]

Haunted Halloween with E.J. Stevens and a giveaway!

My Paranormal Life
by
E.J. Stevens

My life has never been normal.

As a child, I was described by teachers as having"an overactive imagination" and my friends were often scared away by the spooky stories I loved to tell. In my defense, that green bean on the lunch tray really need have horns and teeth and the face that peeped in my window at night did writhe with maggots. I swear. But the truth in my stories didn't keep my schoolmates from edging away. The friends who stuck around? Yes, they were imaginary… or ghosts… or fae. I'll never really be sure which, no matter how much paranormal research I do.

In middle school, things got worse. I started having"visual and auditory hallucinations" that left me with nausea and a heaping dose of fear. This time I bit my lip and kept my mouth shut. I was afraid that sharing my experiences would get me locked up… and I don't look good in white, buckles, and straps.

High school though? It was the worst. Well, until I started writing poetry and short stories. I also found a fabulously geeky bunch of friends you liked to play D&D and other pen-and-paper RPGs. Suddenly my imagination, and my weirdness, was an asset. I could finally share the stories that I longed to tell.

I never stopped sharing my spooky tales, but in recent years I've limited how I share my paranormal life. Supernatural events inspire my writing, but I don't normally discuss these events out loud. A few weeks ago though, while having dinner with friends, I started to tell a story about some recent paranormal events I'd experienced. Talking about these events had a strange, and spooky, effect. Each time I mentioned something paranormal, the restaurant lights flickered. Every. Single. Time.
So the next time you read one of my books aloud, you may want to grab a flashlight. You don't want to be left sitting in the dark.

Happy Halloween. xx E.J.
